What is the Backpack Bill?
The Backpack Bill is innovative education reform that ensures Ohio funds students, not bureaucracy. It ensures that all Ohio students are eligible for a taxpayer-funded scholarship that goes wherever they go, if they opt into the program.
I had the pleasure of working with @ccvpolicy to execute the Backpack Bill Party Kit from start to finish.
The goal of this kit was to encourage Ohio citizens to host a Backpack Bill Party to educate their friends and family on Ohio’s education system, and to send postcards to their legislators telling them why Ohio needs the Backpack Bill.
Where’s The Backpack Bill Now?
The original "Backpack Bill" proposals, notably House Bill 11, were introduced in early 2023. These bills, which aimed to establish an Education Savings Account (ESA) program, did not progress independently through the legislature. Instead, lawmakers folded the key provisions of a universal voucher program into the state's biennium budget bill.
